‘Hot spot’ brings public, the city and the Curtin community to a place one could easily call as the epicenter of SOR socio-cultural life.
The most happening cross section of F06 is clearly visible and in direct interaction with the occupants including but not limited to users of proposed Curtin intermodal facility for light rail train and Trans Perth. Day in, day out use in mind, new F06 offer a diverse range of social and cultural infrastructure along with day-to-day conveniences making it truly a place of deep connection to its community.

The ‘void’ that creates a shortcut or a bypass to the opposite side of the campus further reinforces Curtin vision for a highly integrated built fabric. In addition, the void, in form of a biopsy of F06 portrays a clear demonstration of Built Environment education at Curtin and its multidisciplinary partners. The angle of the void is such that it provides a range of privacy to different teaching and learning activities on different floors without breaking the integrity of overall spatial progression. An intelligence interpretation of Curtin architecture, particularly adjacent new medical school, the ‘hot spot’ picks on the familiar diagonal protrusion of spaces and building envelopes.

The device uses gears to control the movement of the façade with potentials to be a fully automated system. Having a façade structure similar to an adapter to connect to the concrete wall system make it easily operable. The detail shows how its controls can be connected to the structure through a window frame rather than on to the concrete wall.
